TownBuzz

Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 14, 2026

The short version

TownBuzz collects the minimum data it needs to run an events aggregator. We don't sell your data. We don't track you across other sites. We use a small set of third-party services (listed below) to host the site, process sign-ins, deliver email, and accept payments from event organizers. That's it.

If you want to know what we have on you, change it, or delete it, email privacy@townbuzz.app. We'll respond within a week.

What we collect, and why

When you browse the site (no account)

You can use TownBuzz without signing in. When you do, we collect:

  • Standard web server logs (IP address, user agent, pages visited, referrer) — used to keep the site running and spot abuse. Retained for 30 days.
  • Aggregate analytics via Vercel Analytics — page views, navigation paths, country-level location. Anonymous; no cookies that identify you across sites.
  • Anonymous click and view counts on event listings — used to surface popular events and measure which event cards earn engagement. Not tied to your identity.
  • An optional approximate location (if you allow the browser to share it, or pick a city manually) — used to show events near you and compute distance labels. Stored in your browser's localStorage; we don't see it server-side unless you sign in and save it.

When you sign in with Google

Sign-in is via Google OAuth. When you click "Continue with Google," Google sends us:

  • Your email address
  • Your display name
  • Your profile photo URL
  • A Google user ID we use to recognize you on return

We don't request anything else. No calendar, no contacts, no drive. If you want to see exactly what permissions you granted, check your Google account permissions; you can revoke access there any time.

Once you're signed in, we also store:

  • Events you've marked "interested" or "going" (so we can show them on your saved list and use the counts as ranking signals on landing pages).
  • Whether you want the weekly digest email (defaults to on; turn off in your profile any time).
  • Your preferred city / location, if you save it.

When you suggest an event or send a message

The Suggest Event form and Contact form ask for an email address so we can follow up. We use it for that and nothing else. We don't add you to any marketing list.

When you sign up as an organizer / buy a featured slot

Organizer registration collects business name, contact email, and (if you buy a featured event slot) a Stripe customer ID. Stripe handles the actual card data — we never see your card number. We see the Stripe customer ID, the amount you paid, and which event the payment was for.

Who we share data with

The services below process data on TownBuzz's behalf. Each one is a vendor we've picked carefully, but you should know they exist:

Supabase Database and authentication
Everything stored server-side: your account, saved events, organizer profile. Hosted on US infrastructure. Their privacy policy.
Vercel Hosting and aggregate analytics
Web server logs (30 days), anonymous page-view analytics, Speed Insights performance data. Their privacy policy.
Google OAuth sign-in
Email, name, profile photo URL, Google user ID. Only when you sign in. Their privacy policy.
Resend Transactional email
Your email address + the contents of any email we send you (weekly digest, contact-form auto-reply, etc.). Their privacy policy.
Stripe Payment processing
For organizers buying featured slots only. Card data goes directly to Stripe — we don't see it. Their privacy policy.
Anthropic Behind-the-scenes content extraction
Public event listings from third-party sources get processed by Anthropic's API to clean and structure the data before saving. No user data is sent. Their privacy policy.

We don't sell or rent your data to advertisers, brokers, or anyone else. We don't share it for purposes outside the operation of TownBuzz. If we're ever legally compelled to disclose data (e.g., a valid subpoena), we will comply with the minimum required and notify you where the law allows.

Cookies and tracking

TownBuzz uses a small set of cookies and localStorage values that are necessary for the site to work:

  • Supabase auth cookie — keeps you signed in. Expires when you sign out.
  • Saved-filters localStorage — remembers your category and distance filters on listing pages so you don't have to reset them every visit. Lives only in your browser.
  • Saved-location localStorage — your preferred city or geolocated lat/lng. Lives only in your browser.
  • Vercel Analytics cookies — first-party, anonymous, no cross-site tracking.

We don't use third-party advertising cookies, retargeting pixels, or fingerprinting libraries. Clearing your browser storage removes everything we've stored on your end.

Your rights

You can:

  • Access the data we have on you — email privacy@townbuzz.appand we'll send you a copy.
  • Correct it — most fields you can edit on your profile; anything else, email us.
  • Deleteyour account — email us with the subject "delete my account" from your registered email, and we'll permanently delete your account and associated data within 14 days. Public event data you've organized (paid featured listings, etc.) may be retained for tax / accounting purposes.
  • Opt out of the weekly digest — toggle off in your profile, or click the unsubscribe link in any digest email.
  • Revoke Google access — at myaccount.google.com/permissions. This won't delete your TownBuzz data on its own; for that, email us as described above.

Children

TownBuzz isn't directed at children under 13 and isn't intended for their use. If you believe a child has provided us data, email privacy@townbuzz.appand we'll delete it.

Data retention

We keep data only as long as we need it:

  • Account data: as long as your account is active. Deleted within 14 days of your delete request.
  • Server logs: 30 days.
  • Anonymous analytics: aggregated indefinitely; no personally identifying information stored.
  • Payment records (for organizers who bought featured slots): 7 years for tax compliance, then deleted.

Changes to this policy

If we change anything material — what we collect, who we share it with, how we use it — we'll bump the "last updated" date at the top of this page. Email subscribers will get a one-time notice the next time we send the weekly digest. Trivial updates (typo fixes, contact email changes) get a quiet update with no notification.
