The Fox Theatre opened in 1928 as the flagship of William Fox's national theater chain and is one of the few remaining grand movie palaces from the silent-film era still operating as a performing arts venue. The 5,174-seat hall on Woodward Avenue is a National Historic Landmark; the interior is a mix of Far Eastern, Indian, and Egyptian motifs across six tiers of decoration. It's the centerpiece of Detroit's Foxtown entertainment district, directly across the street from Comerica Park and a short walk from Little Caesars Arena.
Programming runs through the year — concerts, comedy specials, Broadway tours, Motown legacy acts, family shows, and the annual Holiday Pops series. The Fox is one of the busiest theaters of its size in the country, regularly cracking Pollstar's top-grossing-venue lists. Olympia Entertainment (the Ilitch family's sports and entertainment company) operates it alongside the other Foxtown venues.
Practical notes: the closest parking is in the structures attached to Comerica Park (off Adams or Brush) — expect $25-40 on event nights. The QLINE streetcar runs up Woodward and has a Foxtown stop. The historic interior means tighter seats than modern venues; the upper balconies have steep pitches that bother some visitors. Concessions are inside the lobby; no in-and-out after the show starts.
