Saint Andrew's Hall

Saint Andrew's Hall is one of Detroit's longest-running live music venues, hosting concerts continuously since 1980 in the Saint Andrew's Society building that dates to 1907. The 1,100-capacity main room is general admission, all-ages friendly, and books a wide range — indie rock, hip-hop, hardcore, punk, electronic — at price points well under what Live Nation's Foxtown venues charge. Past performers include Eminem, Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers, the Notorious B.I.G., and most of the major indie acts of the past four decades on their way up.

The Shelter is the basement room — 400-capacity, even more intimate, where local openers and DIY-scale touring acts play. It's where Eminem famously launched his career in the late '90s freestyle scene, and the venue's hip-hop history is the subject of multiple documentaries. Whether the main hall or the Shelter is in use depends on the show; some nights run both simultaneously with different bills.

Practical notes: parking is street parking in the surrounding Greektown/Bricktown blocks or in nearby structures off Congress and Larned ($10-20 on event nights). The Greektown stop on the QLINE is closest. No re-entry on most shows; coat-check is small so layer accordingly in winter. Cash is preferred at the basement bar; the upstairs bar takes cards.
