Little Caesars Arena

Little Caesars Arena opened in 2017 as the new home of the Detroit Red Wings (NHL) and the Detroit Pistons (NBA), replacing Joe Louis Arena and the Palace of Auburn Hills respectively. The 20,000-capacity (concerts) / 19,500 (basketball) / 19,500 (hockey) arena sits on Woodward Avenue between the Fox Theatre and the Wayne State campus. It's the centerpiece of District Detroit, the Ilitch organization's planned entertainment-district build-out.

Programming beyond Wings and Pistons home games: 30-40 major concert and family-show dates per year — arena-touring pop, country, hip-hop, and rock acts; Disney on Ice and similar family tours; UFC; Monster Jam; political rallies and graduation ceremonies. The seating bowl is steeper than older arenas, which gets you closer to the action but means rows in the upper bowl feel high.

Practical notes: parking is in the structures along Henry, Cass, and Cherry streets within a 5-minute walk; most cost $25-40 for events. The QLINE streetcar's Sproat-Fisher stop is closest. The lower bowl concourse has a wider concessions selection than most NHL/NBA arenas and includes Detroit-area restaurant kiosks (Slows BBQ, Buddy's Pizza, etc.). The Mike Ilitch School of Business shares the building's footprint on the east side, accessed via a separate entrance on Temple.
