Pine Knob Music Theatre (formerly DTE Energy Music Theatre, originally named Pine Knob from 1972 until 2002) is the largest outdoor amphitheatre in Michigan and one of the busiest in the country, with about 30 to 40 shows running each summer from late May through September. The 15,000-capacity venue sits in Independence Township off I-75 north of Detroit and books a mix of arena-touring legacy acts (Bob Seger, Aerosmith, Foreigner), modern pop, country, and rock tours that route through the Midwest between Chicago and Toronto. Lawn seating is the cheap-seat experience that defines the venue — bring a blanket, picnic before the show in the parking lots, and watch from the grass.
Practical notes: the parking lots open about 2.5 hours before show time and tailgating is a big part of the experience. Standard parking is included on most tickets; VIP and premium parking sections are extra. There's no in-and-out privilege after entering the venue gates. Food and drink concessions inside are full bar with limited menu options; pre-purchase a Knob Pass for bottomless soft drinks if you're going with kids. Be prepared for traffic in and out — the venue takes 30-60 minutes to clear after a sold-out show, with most of the queue funneling onto I-75.
The summer schedule typically posts in February or March on Ticketmaster and Live Nation. Sign up for the venue's email list or follow on social to catch on-sale presales. TownBuzz lists confirmed Pine Knob events from Ticketmaster as they're announced — browse below for the upcoming dates.
