The Ark is a non-profit folk music club in downtown Ann Arbor, founded in 1965 and a fixture of the Michigan music scene for six decades. The 400-capacity room on South Main Street is intimate by design — every seat is close to the stage, the sound is acoustic-focused, and the audience etiquette skews quiet and attentive (no talking during songs is enforced by social norm). Programming is concentrated on folk, singer-songwriter, bluegrass, Celtic, blues, and roots music. National touring acts on the folk circuit (Indigo Girls, John Prine before his death, the Wailin' Jennys) routinely play The Ark on their Midwest swings.

The Ark Folk Festival in late January is the venue's annual showcase event — a four-day festival featuring 60+ artists across multiple Ann Arbor stages. Local series including Take a Look! (children's programming), the Open Stage (open mic night), and the songwriter sessions run weekly through the year.

Practical notes: parking is in the public structures on Main, Liberty, and Fourth Avenue downtown ($5-15 evening rates) and street parking on surrounding blocks. The downtown is dense with restaurants and bars for pre-show dinner and post-show drinks. Shows are seated, all-ages, with cash bar (limited beer and wine, no spirits — the venue is a non-profit and the bar is incidental to the music focus).
