Meadow Brook Amphitheatre is a 7,500-capacity outdoor concert venue on the Oakland University campus in Rochester. The amphitheatre opened in 1964 as the summer home of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and has hosted a continuous schedule of concerts and the DSO every summer since. Live Nation operates the venue under contract with the university. Programming runs from late May through early September — a mix of classical (DSO summer series, Meadow Brook Theatre productions), legacy rock, country, alternative, and family shows.
The setting is a converted hillside on the OU campus, with the stage at the base and reserved pavilion seating up the slope. Lawn seating is general admission on grass behind the pavilion. The pavilion is partially covered but rain protection is limited to the front-row sections — bring a poncho if weather looks uncertain. The acoustics are tuned for the DSO programming originally and translate well to amplified shows.
Practical notes: parking is in the OU campus lots and is included with most tickets. The campus is accessible via I-75 and Walton Boulevard. There's no public transit. Concessions inside the venue are typical outdoor-amphitheatre fare. Pre-show tailgating in the lots is allowed and common; the campus setting means more space than crowded urban venues. Curfew is generally 10:30 PM for residential noise reasons.
